Sunshine, Smiles, and a Splash of Culture Shock:
Raising a Family on a Tropical Island
Have you ever dreamt of trading in your daily commute for a swim with exotic fish? We did, and we took the leap! I am an early childhood educator from Denmark and this is my story of how I have combined my passion for learning and playing with living abroad with my little family.
Beside me on this incredible journey is my husband from Brazil and our daughter, who has made us even more clear about what we want with our life. Parenthood, for us, is about gentle parenting - creating a childhood full of memories, love, and traveling but most importantly time to just be a kid.
FAMILY AND LIVING ABROAD
We're a Danish-Brazilian family living our dream on the beautiful island of Koh Tao in Thailand. I'm Mette, an early childhood educator with a passion for igniting a love of learning through play. My husband is a diving instructor trainer, and together we share the love for adventure.
We're raising our incredible multilingual daughter around the world. Right now we are living at Koh Tao. While the turquoise waters and vibrant coral reefs were undeniably stunning, navigating a new culture with a tiny human in tow presented its fair share of bumps along the road. There are many things that can be more difficult and challenging when living abroad as a small family, from choosing a school to finding your place in a new culture.
So who are we are and what do we do, you may ask?
PARENTHOOD
I'm a big believer in gentle parenting. I believe that children should be raised with love, respect, and understanding.
In this view, I do also believe that learning should be a joyful experience, and I'm always looking for new and creative ways to help her to learn and develop.
Raising a World Citizen: A Symphony of Languages

Our daughter's world is a beautiful symphony of languages. Danish, Portuguese, and English weave a tapestry of communication in our home. We embrace this linguistic adventure, documenting our experiences raising multilingual children and sharing tips on how to nurture a love for languages in a fun and natural way.
To support our daughter's journey, we have created an environment where our daughter can develop and learn but most importantly of course have space and time to play.
