The Best Outdoor Play Ideas

We all know it's important for our kids to get outside and sometimes that's what can turn the mood around, right? If you haven't yet read the blog post 'Outdoor Play in Preschool' then hurry up and click here. Here you can read more about why nature and the outdoors are so good for your child.

But are you also looking for ideas for outdoor play with your child? Take a look here for a few ideas!

10 EASY OUTDOOR GAMES AND ACTIVITIES WITH YOUR CHILD

1. Go for a walk or bike ride.

We always try to get out every morning for a walk or a bike ride. This is a great way to get exercise and enjoy the fresh air. It is a good way to explore your neighborhood, visit a local park or trail, or even go for a ride on the beach.

2. Play in/with the water.

If you have access to a beach or lake, take your kids swimming or playing in the water. Even when we're just at home, but I have something I need to do or just want to enjoy a cup of coffee, a tub of water and a few pitchers, wipes and spoons are always a hit.

That's entertainment for a long time!

3. Play outdoor games.

There are many great outdoor games such as tag, hide-and-seek,

hopscotch, and jump rope.

4. Go on a nature walk.

Take your kids on a nature walk to explore the natural world around them. We love those morning walks where there's time to explore. Pick flowers, look at butterflies and birds, and listen to the ocean. A very short walk can take hours.

5. Play with sand and dirt.

Kids love playing with sand and dirt. You can take them to the sandbox at the park, build a sandcastle at the beach, or just let them play in the dirt in your backyard. My big wish for our next house is to build a real mud kitchen!

6. Play with balls.

Balls are a great way to get kids moving and playing outside. You can play catch, kickball, or just let them roll the ball around and run after it. This is often a favorite for the husband and child who can spend a long time running and/or playing ball together.

7. Play with sidewalk chalk.

Sidewalk chalk is a great way for children to express their creativity. They can draw pictures, write words, or play games on the sidewalk.

8. Play with bubbles.

Bubbles are a fun and easy way to entertain children of all ages. You can blow bubbles yourself or buy a bubble machine. When I see kids jumping around for bubbles, it's like seeing childhood in their eyes with joy and excitement!

9. Picnic

Pack a lunch and enjoy a nice picnic on the beach, in the forest, or on the playground. Food is always a little more exciting and delicious when you eat it somewhere else.

10. Build a fort.

Kids love building forts, both indoors and outdoors. Gather some branches, leaves, and other materials and help your kids build a fort in the backyard or at a park. At home, we often build forts indoors, but when we have more outdoor space, we'll definitely build a fort outside. The perfect hiding spot!

The list is endless and makes for many happy hours with your child.

I'm sure you also have some great activities and games. Let me know what they are?
